Buprofezin is contact and stomach insecticide with long lasting. It is an insect growth regulator which inhibits chitin production in juvenile stages, causing abnormality at moulting and subsequently death two to three days after application. It was developed for the control of rice plant hoppers, leaf hoppers, white flies, scales and mealybugs. Buprofezin is selective for the Homoptera and harmless to many natural. Because of the predominance of Homopteran pests in citrus, its selectivity may make it a useful pesticide for integrated pest management.
